Strawberry Picking June 2013

The kids pick blueberries and apples every year but this is our first year of making it to you-pick strawberries.  We never can pick enough... the strawberries were gone in days. Emmett is a HUGE fan.

Fathers Day June 2013

Dad's pick this year...  Pyramid Point with its great trail and viewing site located in the Port Oneida area.  A relaxing and fun 2.5 miles of trails through open fields, hardwood forests to the crest of the dunes. The view from the top of Pyramid Point is well worth the drive and hike with two kids.

Happy 5th Birthday Brooklynn June 2013

June 12, 2013

Here's what my five-year old Brooklynn's looks like to me:

1. She’s tall. She’ll be as tall as I am but with big beautiful bright blue eyes.

2. She’s very smart.  Smarter than I am.  While homeschooling in My Fathers World we learned about the phases of the moon after reading some Little Bear books.  I decided she should make some flash card with black construction paper and then see if she could not only put them in order but also remember the name of each phase.  I had to look in the book to see if she was correct and she was "waxing... haha I'll never get it without having to practice with her".

3. She knows what she wants. She’s particular about even the shade of pink she’s wearing (light pink is by far her favorite) and prefers dresses that allow her to move and twirl easily.  She absolutely died of embarrassment the day I picked her up from school in my yoga pants... mind you, I never got out of the truck.  A good stylist is hard to find and I enjoy her tips.  She keeps me looking nice.

4. She has an amazing imagination.  She has an adorably girlie belief in seed babies and fairies and gets excited hearing stories of the fairies in our yard.  She can be left alone for hours with a cardboard box and have the best day ever.

5. She’s a cheerleader. She clap and cheers for Emmett when he learns something new.  She roots me on when I’m cleaning and this week said “You did a wonderful job with dinner Daddy.  I loooove this chicken; way to go!”

6. She’s a talker. She grabs my cell phone and goes into her special space in her bedroom (under her loft bed) and makes calls without me knowing to her Grandparents and/or friends.

7. She’s a collector of rare finds. Open any of her 30 purses in her bedroom and you’ll know what I mean. Price tags, rocks, dead dandelions, leaves, cupcakes from her play set, mail (junk mail), lipsticks, buttons, etc. True treasures to her.  I love that even my friend Carrie once said "We know when Brooklynn has been here" while cleaning up after a play date because there was pieces of this and that tucked into purses, backpacks, shopping carts etc.

8. She’s loves her friends. She asks me at least weekly to have a specific friend over.  Her favorite friends are Audrey, Malina, Cahill, Emmett and her Mommy.

9. She’s compassionate. If someone even sneezes, she immediately thinks it would be a great idea to send a homemade “get well soon” card. (If you're thinking hey she never made one for me... well I'm confident she did.  I just normally don't mail them out. Sorry). She (normally) feels bad when her brother is upset and she will do what ever is needed to be done to make him happy again.

I could go on and on but this is a good snapshot of my five-year-old smart, beautiful, sassy, sympathetic, empathetic, loving, sweet girl who makes me proud to be her mommy every single day and makes me feel like maybe I'm not doing everything wrong as a parent.

Happy 5th birthday to my favorite girl in the whole wide world
