I took Brooklynn out on a date. We went to a mini ballet and then out to lunch downtown with our friends Carrie and Audry. Great time!!



Kids Say The Darndest Things PART II

We borrowed the book, The Misbehaving Bee by Max Lucado, from the church were Brooklynn attends AWANA.  We read the book at bedtime.  Towards the end of the story, the main character Buzby prays to God.  It's really a cute story.  After finishing it the other night, Brooklynn says to me:

Brooklynn:  "Daddy....guess what?"
Dad:  "What?"
Brooklynn:  "Sometimes I talk to God too like Buzby"
Dad:   "You do?  That is AWESOME Brooklynn!!"
Brooklynn:  "Yeah, I talked to him today when I was swimming"
Dad:  "Swimming?"
Brooklynn:  "Yeah, when I was swimming in the bathtub this morning"
Dad:  "Oh, okay....what did you say to God?"
Brooklynn:  "I said, Dear God, can my daddy stay in my room after story time and tickle-itch my back and stay with me until I fall asleep?"
Dad:  " Really, did God answer you back?"
Brooklynn:  "Yes, he said that your daddy loves you and he will stay in your room with you at bedtime."
Dad:  "WOW, that is so neat that God said that."
Brooklynn:  [while unzipping her pajama's] "Yep, so will you scratch my back now?"


....what's a dad to do....love my little girl!!

Kids Say The Darndest Things

Dad:  "Brooklynn, no toys allowed in bed at bedtime."
Brooklynn:  "I know daddy, but I like my money cash register."
Dad:  "I know you do honey, but only books are allowed at bedtime."
Brooklynn:  "Do you want to buy something first?"
Dad:  "Sure, are you selling toots?"
Brookynn:  "No silly, but I have some beans!"
Dad: [laughing] "Okay, I'll take some of those then."
Brooklynn:  [scanning] "Here's your money and here you go.  Do you want anything else?"
Dad:  "Sure, I'll take a kiss...do you have any?"
Brooklynn:  "Yes, but they're not on sale!!"
Dad:  "Time for bed Brooklynn...no toys in bed, don't make me come back here."

...I think she won this round....

Emmett's First Hair Cut...18 months old basically

We were a little worried about Emmett's first hair cut but felt it was time as he was about to get his 18 month pictures taken. I was assuming that being wrapped in a plastic cape, squirted with water, and attacked with sharp scissors by a stranger would freak him out. But getting his hair trimmed was not hair-raising after all. We went to Sharkeys Cuts for Kids. He got to sit in a car, eat a sucker and got a balloon at the end. Literally all of Emmett's favorites right now.

I will give the stylist a few props — I know she wasn’t working under the most favorable conditions — but, it looks pretty funny…the back is way too high and nothing is straight. After he was given the sucker he never moved so we were hoping for an overall better cut. From a distance its really not that bad I guess.

Do I want it back — Heck ya. I missed that baby look. Even though I knew it would make him look older I was not ready I guess. Right after he got it done, I asked the stylist if she could glue his hair back on. I know it will grow back again. In the meantime, I’ll just smile at the fact that he looks like such a little man now.

Cake Decorating 101

Brooklynn and I have been experimenting with our frosting recipe (because of a food intolerance Brooklynn can't have the good stuff) and practicing decorating cakes and cupcakes. Here are some pictures Todd took one evening. Let the second picture be a warning about eating OUR sweets :)  Just Kidding. I would never share sweets with our friends that Brooklynn helped make without warning so don't freak out about all the birthday cakes you ate at our house.... too much.
