So yesterday was the first time that daddy went to pick Brooklynn up from her Awana Cubby class at Bible Baptist. Mom said to get there a little early, but I was way too early...about 25 minutes to be exact. I peaked through the arts and crafts classroom window to see my little girl enjoying her time. Then one of the volunteers said I was welcome to go in and help/watch so I took advantage. Brooklynn was excited to see me, hugged me, and said, "I missed you SO much daddy!"....it melted my heart. I helped her finished her "day 3 of the creation" story coloring book page. Next was snack time, which was her turn to bring, so she was super excited to share her apples and apple muffins with her class. She quickly ate them and we said our good byes and headed to the car....
....this is where the creativity of her little mind took over. I asked her about school that day, what she did, who she saw, ect ect. The she said that she cut her lip and it hurt. I asked her how she cut her lip and this is what she said, "I cut it with my scissors". I was a little worried, so I actually pulled over to look, but I could not see anything wrong. I subtly suggested that scissors do not belong in her mouth and that maybe I needed to give them another time-out. Brooklynn loves loves LOVES cutting paper and making "money" with her child-proof scissors, however she has cut a few things she wasn't supposed to and we've had to take them away for a time period to prove out point. After hearing this, she quickly changed her story....
..."daddy, I cut my lip from a shark." She told me, "I was downtown by the water where you and mommy got married and a shark bit me in the lip and it hurted me." She must have put together a lot of little pieces of stuff we've done over the last few days to develop this story. We have a picture in our bedroom of us on our wedding day at the open space in downtown TC. You can barely make out the water in the back ground. However, the day prior, we took the kids walking downtown and out to eat at Bubba's and for ice cream at Coldstone Creamery. While we waited for mom to get there, we walked along the boardman river. Still not sure where the "shark" comes into the story, but she's pretty good at piecing this stuff together. Before long I'm sure Gunner will be the culprit for "eating her homework"....but then again, that could be the truth. Gotta love these years!!!
